Inspirational personal styling by Victoria Genevieve

Sunday the 8th of March was International Women’s Day and this year’s theme is #EachforEqual. Individually, we are all responsible for our own thoughts and actions, all day, every day. We can actively choose to challenge stereotypes, broaden perceptions, improve situations and celebrate women’s achievements.

In keeping with the theme of celebrating women’s achievements, I have met up with some inspirational women. The first inspirational woman to feature, is Victoria Genevieve, who runs her own professional styling, image consultancy and personal shopping business.

Victoria started her business out a desire to help women ‘Get up, get dressed and feel fabulous’. Victoria graduated from London College of Fashion and her 17 years of fashion expertise has empowered women with the style and confidence to enjoy life more, through the medium of clothing and accessories. Victoria believes that no matter what you do everyday, you shouldn’t be settling with ‘that will do’. Victoria helps you focus on buying less, whilst buying better, thereby helping ladies build up a capsule wardrobe.

Let me add to the story my personal experience. I had been a stay at home Mother for 3 years, spending what seemed to be an eternity in ‘Mum wear’ of jeans, comfy trainers and practical tops, whilst juggling two toddlers under the age of 3. I felt it was time to regain my identity and confidence, at the same time decluttering my wardrobe.

After two pregnancies and a having stepped off the corporate career ladder, there was lots of clothing in my wardrobe that was redundant. At the same time, I had recently returned to work in London on a part time basis, so my corporate wardrobe needed an update.

I came across Victoria’s Instagram account and after exchanging some messages, I booked a personal shopping session. Victoria took on-board my brief to update my casual wardrobe and work wear and we arranged to meet up at Bluewater. Victoria put me at ease straight away, we grabbed a coffee and we wandered off to visit some shops. Victoria knows many of the store staff and it was so helpful to have assistance when trying on clothing.

Equally, Victoria recommended some items that I would never have considered, so it was good for me to venture out my drab comfort zone and to add some statement items and core essentials to my wardrobe. It was the most productive few hours I have ever had at Bluewater and I came home with a lovely capsule corporate and casual wardrobe.

Victoria frequently holds events, and last week Victoria held an Inspirational Styling event at Hoopers in Tunbridge Wells. Victoria went over some key wardrobe items for the season and gave useful guidance, such as “think a base colour and add in a few key pieces”. A good coat is a key piece and wearing clothes that help you feel comfortable, go a long way to contributing to “the best time of your life, in the moment that you are in”. Don’t be scared to add some colour to your wardrobe, after all, it’s good to stand out from the crowd. A vibrant bright coat, especially when everyone else already wears black coats, in a statement red or vibrant pink colour can set you apart from the crowd for all the right reasons. I personally feel like I am putting my super powers on when I wear my red coat and I receive so many compliments when wearing it!

Victoria focuses on the positives, she has some good mantra’s such as ‘taking out a bit of you, not that will do’ and ‘a dress is an instant outfit’. Victoria also covered off accessories, from beautiful bracelets, to key jackets (don’t discount a staple denim jacket, blazer or leather/pleather jacket), along with handbags and shoes. Victoria had a railing of key clothing, including some lovely summer items and pyjamas.

Estee Lauder also presented a make-up demonstration and gave some good tips and information about their latest products. All the attendees came away excited and ready to revamp their wardrobes.

Should you wish to take advantage of a special offer, Victoria has a special for the month of June, where she is offering a 3 hour personal shopping session at Bluewater for a special of £195, so do get in touch with Victoria to book a session.
